My name is Angela, and I am currently a sophomore at Queens College studying Communication Sciences and Disorders. This major will prepare me for a future as a Speech-Language Pathologist (SLP).
What is a SLP? Well, according to the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association (ASHA), a speech-language pathologist “is responsible for the diagnosis, prognosis, prescription, and remediation of speech, language, and swallowing disorders. A speech-language pathologist evaluates and treats children and adults who have difficulty speaking, listening, reading, writing, or swallowing. The overall objective of speech-language pathology services is to optimize individuals’ ability to communicate and swallow, thereby improving quality of life.”
I was born here in Queens and have never lived anywhere else. Queens is the most ethnically diverse community in the United States, a real melting pot, which is fantastic in my opinion! I hope that over the next year you will follow my journey in learning more about all things language, and have as much fun as I will!
